What you need to know about Atos assessments.

Politics and Insights

Courageous whistleblower, Scottish nurse and ex-Atos employee, Joyce Drummond, who recently made a heartfelt apology to Atos assessment victims, has submitted evidence to the Scottish Parliament Select Committee on Welfare Reform.

Joyce forwarded some of her notes to me, containing this information about Atos assessments. I have edited where needed, organised the notes and added some information to the text. I’ve included the contents from Joyce’s notes in full. Both Joyce and I share this information in the hope that people going through Atos assessments will find it helpful.

Joyce told me:

“I knew nothing about Atos when I joined, and left as soon as I realised that there was no way to fight from the inside.  I stated at my interview for the job that I believed in social inclusion and social justice.

I went for 4 weeks training in England. The training did not prepare me for what…

OVER 7000 (SEVEN THOUSAND PEOPLE) HAVE COMMITTED SUICIDE JUST BEFORE OR SHORTLY AFTER AN INTERVIEW WITH ATOS. if 7000 PEOPLE had died of cancer in one hospital or 7000 recruits died in training or 7000 miners died of toxic fumes underground THERE WOULD BE HELL TO PAY, enquirers, court cases, jail time for those involved, companies sued to the eyeballs etc, BUT THIS IS NOT EVEN GETTING ONE SECOND AIR TIME. NO POLITICIANS ASKING FOR ARREST WARRANTS, NO POLICE OFFICERS OF JUDGES OBJECTING TO CRIMINAL PRACTICES OF THE DWP AND CAPITA/ATOS. A lie is a lie no matter how one paints it to look like the truth. our politicians are PEOPLE. NOTHING MORE. When David Cameron came to power he said : “The test of a good society is how do you protect the poorest, the most vulnerable, the elderly, the frail. That’s important in good times, it’s even more important in difficult times. People need to know that if they have me as their Prime Minister and they have a Conservative government, it will be that sort of Prime Minister. Iain Duncan-Smith said : “I say to those watching today and who are genuinely sick, disabled or are retired. You have nothing to fear. This government and this party don’t regard caring for the needy as a burden. It is a proud duty to provide financial security to the most vulnerable members of our society and this will not change. This is our contract with the most vulnerable.” since then, the attitude of our leaders has been nothing more than oppressive. elderly PEOPLE dying from cold and hunger, under educated children, unqualified individuals working in schools, un qualified individuals making LIFE AND DEATH decision on people with mental health problems. these PEOPLE working for CAPITA and ATOS, with the full authority of the politicians, who have no mental health experience what so ever are making life changing decisions on other PEOPLE and to date over 7000 PEOPLE have taken their own life. The government repeatedly claimed that Professor Harrington had supported the national rollout of incapacity benefit claimants “Professor Harrington went away and made his recommendations to us, which we accepted in full and have implemented. He told me, “I believe the system is in sufficient shape for you to proceed with incapacity benefit reassessment.” We set ourselves a goal to put his recommendations in place, improve the quality of the process and address many of the issues to which hon. Members have referred today by the end of last May, when the assessments in the incapacity benefit reassessment were to start alongside the existing process of assessing ESA new claimants. We did that, and we started.” 1 Feb 2012 : Column 289WH Hansard Chris Grayling However, Harrington was clearly an intelligent man who had made thoughtful and intelligent suggestions for improving the assessments. I could never understand why he agreed to put the most vulnerable claimants through a failing test. when asked about his recommendations: This was Professor Harrington’s reply : “To your question: I NEVER—repeat–NEVER agreed to the IB migration. I would have preferred that it be delayed but by the time I said that, the political die had been cast. I then said that i would review progress of that during my reviews. The decision was political . I could not influence it. IS THAT CRYSTAL CLEAR?. these political PEOPLE who control our lands and every second of our lives have proven time and time again that they are not to be trusted. they lie, cover up banking crimes, get loans on our backs without asking, BORROW billions to send off as assistance to places like India and Nigeria, neither of these nations need those billions more than the British education system. THESE POLITICIANS ARE PEOPLE, NOTHING MORE. jsa.
